A playoff spot looks promising for the Red Wings

FAT GUY CORNER

The Fat Guy typing an article on his 60th birthday (Monday) while watching the Red Wing hockey game is true dedication I say!

I am happy to say the Red Wings are playing a nice hockey game and won the game in overtime 4-3.

The Red Wings West Coast trip saw them go 2-2 on the four game trip. I have enjoyed this team play all season long. I think Steve Yzerman built this hockey team the right way even though the boys in red and white have missed the playoffs for way too many seasons. All of us who are Wings fans have been forced to watch a lot of bad hockey until the last couple of seasons. I stated last week I think the playoffs will include this Red Wing hockey team this spring.

I am concerned at the goaltender position due to inconsistency between the pipes. I think Alex Lyon has earned the right to be the starting goaltender as he is 14-8. I have no problem with Ville Husso in the nets. Ville just cannot stay healthy this season though.

The offense all season long has had balanced scoring as numerous guys have 10-plus goals. I think Stevie will make some trade deadline moves to bolster this hockey club here in late February. The Detroit late season schedule is not a killer one either with a lot of winnable hockey games. The stretch run will be good NHL hockey here in Hockeytown!

The Michigan State Spartans swept the season basketball series with a 73-63 win over Michigan at Crisler. The Spartans had not won in Ann Arbor since 2019, so I am sure that win felt good to Spartan fans.

I have not watched much Michigan basketball due to the fact they stink so bad. However, I did watch the entire Michigan and Michigan State basketball game Saturday night. (I just realized how boring my life has become!)

The Michigan team I will now call the Bakery. I mean, come on, 22 apple and cherry turnovers? I say absolutely ridiculous basketball. The Michigan Wolverines went the last seven minutes with no baskets! The Michigan guards Dug McDaniel and Jaelin Llewellyn were a combined 8-24 from the floor? I say, keep that up and a nice “Brick” condo will be built by the end of the month.

The Michigan State Spartans went 2-14 from three ball land and still won by 10 points for Pete’s sake! Are the 15 steals Michigan State received in the game good defense or Michigan handouts? I’ll let those who watched decide that question.

I thought Tyson Walker and Malik Hall played really well in this basketball game. The Spartans are now 17-9 and 9-6 in the Big Ten and will make the NCAA Tournament easily.

I, at the moment, think Michigan State is not a Sweet Sixteen team. I don’t want to hear how IZZO’S teams “turn it on in March” either because that was true in the good ole days. I think this is a very average Michigan State basketball team.

The Michigan team is darn right awful, and that’s being kind! The best team in college hoops is the U-Conn Huskies right now!

The NBA All-Star game has become as bad as the NFL Pro Bowl! I mean seriously who wants to watch this garbage basketball? The East beat the West 211-186! How do you call that basketball? I say put two kids in their bedrooms with a Nerf hoop jumping off their beds for slam dunks! I would rather watch that than what the NBA put out on the basketball court. Can we just be honest as hockey, basketball and football fans and do away with these All-Star garbage games! GOOD GRIEF!

The Detroit Tigers have reported to spring training so baseball news will be flowing out of Lakeland, Fla. here real soon.

The Daytona 500 winner was William Byron, which was run on Monday afternoon due to rain on Sunday.
