Fire Prevention Open House

BURTON — The city of Burton presents its Fire Prevention Open House from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 13 at fire station 1, at 2031 E. Bristol Rd., fire station 2, at 1320 S. Belsay Rd. and fire station 3, at 4515 Davison Rd. This is an opportunity for the community to meet their local firefighters, tour the fire stations and trucks and receive free smoke detectors/batteries/ handouts/reflective address signs. VFW Halloween party

BURTON — A community kids’ Halloween party will be held from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Burton VFW, 2260 S. Belsay Road. Bags will be provided. There will also be coloring, a duck pond, learning activities, a Sponge Bob bean bag toss, a spooky Halloween walk, a graveyard and wiggle wagon rides. Costumes encouraged for adults and kids. This event is sponsored by the Burton VFW Post and Auxiliary and the Davison Auxiliary, as well as the Navy League of Michigan. Details: 810-743-4138. — T.T.

Rotary Halloween party

BURTON — The Rotary Club of Burton presents its Senior Citizen’s Halloween Ball from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 26 at Atherton Elementary School, 3444 S. Genesee Road. This free event features a buffet dinner at 6 p.m., door prizes and best costume prizes. Music will be provided by The Fairlanes. Coffee hours

BURTON — State Rep. Tim Sneller (D-Burton) has announced his November schedule for in-district coffee hours. These coffee hours allow residents the opportunity to stop in and have an informal conversation with the representative about how to improve state government, or simply to share concerns and ideas. Rep. Sneller’s upcoming November coffee hour for Burton will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. Nov. 2 at Scotti’s Coney Island, 5522 Lapeer Road. — T.T.

Diabetes seminar

BURTON — Harmony Baptist Church will be sponsoring a “Get to know Diabetes” seminar from 12-3 p.m. Oct. 13 at the church, at 5106 E. Bristol Road. A registered dietitian will present helpful information about diabetes and its management, and a healthy cooking demonstration will be conducted. Hamburger night

GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP — The public is welcome to attend hamburger night held from 5-10 p.m. every Friday at Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 822, G-5065 S. Saginaw St. Hamburgers will be sold for $3, hot dogs for $2, BLTs for $3, grilled cheese for $2 and cheeseburgers for $3.50. Attendees can add fries or onion rings for $1.
