Photo by David Roe NEW LOTHROP – Bendle’s baseball season was capped off during Saturday’s Div. 4 district championship game at New Lothrop with a 10-0 loss to the host Hornets. Bendle advanced to the title game after knocking off cross-town rival Atherton, 5-2. New Lothrop arrived in the championship after a 10-0 win over Bentley. Game details were not reported prior to press deadlines.

Atherton swallowed a 5-2 loss to Bendle during Saturday’s district semifinal game. Bentley lost to New Lothrop 10-0 on the other side of bracket.

“After giving up three runs in the first, we played even the rest of the way,” said Atherton coach Richard Shedd. “We only managed two hits off of Bendle’s pitcher and just couldn’t get anything to drop in. It happens in baseball sometimes. I’m very proud of the kids this year. They played hard and never gave up.”

Atherton closed out its season with an 18-5 record, its best in many seasons, according to Shedd. – A.V./J.O./B.P.

DIV. 2 AT BIRCH RUN

Kearsley had its season come to an end following a 4-3 loss to Clio during the Div. 2 district semifinals at Birch Run on Saturday.

In the other semifinal, host Birch Run defeated Mt. Morris to advance to the championship game, where it would defeat Clio 3-2 for the district title. Kearsley stats were not available. – A.V.
