Hornets split duals at Swartz Creek

Photo by Brandon Pope SWARTZ CREEK – The Kearsley wrestling team split its duals at the Swartz Creek team invite on Saturday, defeating Carman-Ainsworth 55-15 and Swartz Creek 50-25, but losing 54-24 to Brandon and 57-9 to DeWitt.

At 130, Andy Ruhstorfer finished 4-0 on the day with three wins by fall and one by a 7-1 decision over DeWitt. Also finishing undefeated was John Brown, who finished 3-0 at 171 with a win by fall over Brandon, a 13-3 major decision over Carman-Ainsworth and a 7-3 decision over DeWitt. John William at 171 also finished undefeated, defeating Swartz Creek by technical fall in his lone match of the day.

Finishing 3-1 on the day were Jason Judd at 103 and La’Ron Ruffin at 119. Judd won once each by forfeit, decision and fall while Ruffin won once each by forfeit, technical fall and fall. At 160, Tyler Byczynski finished 2-1 with win a win by fall over Carman-Ainsworth and a win by major decision over Swartz Creek.

Machai Garza at 112 and Ethan Goss at 145 both finished 2-2 with wins over Carman-Ainsworth and Swartz Creek. Trenton DiGenova at 135 was 2-2 with wins over Brandon and Carman- Ainsworth. At 152, Malik Davis finished 1-1 with a win over Carman-Ainsworth by fall at 4:28. Also finishing 1-1 was Nathan Lind at 152, who defeated Swartz Creek by forfeit.

Rodney Richards at 125, Zach Moore at 140 and Gabe Mosher at 215 all finished 1-3 while Ashtyn Cohoon-Smith at 160, Dalton Roberts at 189, Savanna Keskes at 285 and Brandon Fisher at 171 all went winless.

Kearsley was at Holly on Wedensday after press deadlines and will be at Bay City Western on Saturday at 9 a.m. – A.V.

BENDLE: The Tigers pick up a narrow win over Flint Beecher, 36-33, at last Wednesday’s triangular at Bentley.

Tyler Johnson at 140, Jayden Compton at 145 and Wesley Kimball at 152 all won by forfeit before Grady Wagner was pinned in 4:20 at 160.

Rob Brunell secured the pin in 1:26 at 189 while Mike Bates at 215 and Rob Rouse at 285 each received wins by void. Synczre Dyson was pinned in 1:37 at 112, Christian Downer lost a 6-4 decision at 125 and at 130, Anthony Urlochar was pinned in 1:24.

The Tigers were in action on Wednesday, hosting Webberville, Byron and Bentley, following press deadlines. – B.P.

BENTLEY: The Bulldogs were at the New Lothrop Tournament on Saturday, where Robert Rogers was victorious at 130. He won 6-1 over Lowell before taking a 3-1 decision in the championship match over Caro. Harry Carlquist picked up a win by fall in 0:19 at 152, Phillip DeWolf lost at 160 by fall in 0:44 to Cass City and Victor Shaw was pinned in 2:56 at 285 by Lowell.

Hosting their own tri-meet last Wednesday, the Bulldogs picked up a 30-24 triumph over Flint Beecher. Carlquist won by fall in 1:16 at 160 and DeWolf won by forfeit at 171. Shaw got the win by injury at 285 and Jake Brand was victorious at 130 by fall in 0:48. Rogers capped it off with a win by fall in 0:13 at 135.

The Bulldogs traveled to Bendle on Wednesday, following press deadlines. – B.P.
