ATHERTON: The Wolverines bowled against Beecher on Saturday, but the girls’ team ended up with no opponent. The boys’ team easily handled Beecher, but no score was reported. Atherton’s high bowlers were Aubrie Felton and Gavin Libbey. – L.P.

KEARSLEY: The Kearsley girls continued their dominant season, taking home the Lila Furnish first-place title on Sunday in Owosso for the fifth consecutive year. Macomb Dakota was second and Owosso was third. The Lady Hornets had a slow start, sitting in fourth place after four games, but turned it around to qualify in first with a total pinfall of 2,200.

In the team match-ups, Kearsley defeated Swartz Creek 161-144 and 215-126 to move on to the final four. Kearsley then faced Lake Orion, winning 202-167 and 236-144 to advance to the finals against Macomb Dakota. The Lady Hornets started out strong, bowling six strikes in a row to take the first game 277-143 and the second 213-149.

On Saturday, the Kearsley girls defeated Clio 29-1. The Lady Hornets took a 10-0 lead after taking both Baker games, 198-137 and 187-161. Kearsley then took the first individual game 973-744 and the second 981-726.

Barbara Hawes rolled a 197 and 189, Alexis Roof 235 and 207 and Imari Blond 196 and 218. Karlee Griffin added a 193, Emma Boychuk 152, Mary Wheeler 185 and Allison Robbins 182.

The Kearsley boys were also in action against Clio on Saturday, winning 20-10. The Hornets lost the first Baker game 194-166, but bounced back to take the second, 169- 160. In the first game, Kearsley had a total pinfall of 1,066, led by Seth Varner’s 289. Kyle Langworthy chipped in a 216, Chase Gebhardt 211 and Nathan Maxwell 193.

In the second individual game, Kearsley knocked down 1,043 pins to take the win. Maxwell added a 190, Varner 174, Langworthy 225, Gebhardt 245 and Jake Reid 209.

Kearsley will face Flushing on Saturday at Holly Lanes. – K.R.
