Alternative school open house

BURTON — An open house for Atherton Virtual Academy will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at 2400 Clarice Ave., in the former Vern Van Y Elementary. The academy offers all students a unique option for completing the requirements to earn their high school diplomas or GEDs. Students will be allowed to demonstrate their prior knowledge in a course and bypass having to relearn or redo the assignments, quizzes or tests. This helps accelerate their progress in classes required for graduation, making earning a diploma a real possibility for all students, even those with special circumstances. During the open house, students and their families will be able to meet Alternative Virtual Academy staff. For details, call 810-591-0850. — T.T.
