Man with baby assaults security guard

BURTON — A mall security guard was struck several times by two shoplifters. A man and a woman were caught trying to steal a handful of Ray Ban sunglasses worth about $1,500 at Pearl Vision at Courtland Center, May 10.

When confronted by the security guard, the two punched and kicked her in the face and legs. The man had a baby strapped to his chest during the assault. The man and woman escaped and were seen driving away in a gray Pontiac G6. The attending officer put out the description of the suspects and the vehicle.

Mount Morris Township police pulled over the vehicle at Stanley Road and Saginaw Street. Four people were in the vehicle. The two suspects were charged, finger printed and taken to the Genesee County Jail after being interviewed by a Burton detective.

A female was transported to Oakland County for a felony probation warrant. The sunglasses were located and were lodged as evidence.

Woman banned from Rite-Aid tries to steal diapers

BURTON — A woman tried to steal diapers from Rite-Aid May 11. The woman was intercepted by an employee. The woman dropped the two large boxes of diapers and ran out the door.

An officer saw the woman walking in front of the Machine Shop on Dort Highway. The woman was apprehended and put in the back of the police car. She said she was stealing the diapers to sell so she could buy a birthday gift for her 18-year-old daughter.

The officer checked the woman’s record and saw she had an order that prevented her from entering any Rite-Aid. The woman was issued a citation for retail fraud and is ordered to appear at the 67th District Court.

Man uses Gatorade bottle as a gun in attempted robbery

BURTON — On May 13 two men approached a third shift employee outside Kroger on Bristol Road. The men were wearing black hoodies and had their hands hidden in their pockets like they had guns. Someone called 9-11 and it scared the suspects off.

The two men got into a dark red Pontiac Grand Am and fled to a nearby mobile home park. When the two ran away a Gatorade bottle was dropped.

Police took the bottle into evidence. Later, police were told by another employee the men tried to steal candy and condoms before the attempted robbery outside. The case is still active. — Compiled by Tara Moreno
