— Grace Community Christian Fellowship, 3707 Davison Rd., is now holding 6:30 p.m. services on Sundays which will be identical to the morning service, but held later so people who cannot attend in the morning can do so later in the day.
Pastor Gary Cech said while many churches have drifted away from the evening service, he is approaching the idea from a different standpoint.
“We are approaching it from the viewpoint of trying to reach the people who are working retail or serving in restaurants and cannot make a Sunday morning service,” he said. “We want them to experience the same in worship, fellowship and teaching as if they had been in the morning service.”
Cech said so far, it has been well received.
Grace Community Christian Fellowship started in Cech’s home in 2006 and he held services in Atherton’s Vern Van Y Elementary cafeteria from February 2007 to August 2008.
The church purchased the old Michigan Video store at Davison and Dexter, one block west of Center Road and spent $70,000 in renovations to bring it up to code, said Cech.
Cech said each month the church holds the First Friday Free Family Film Festival where they show family friendly films and provide popcorn and beverage.
“We are trying to provide wholesome entertainment in difficult economic times,” he said.
