Get in the swing

BURTON — The IMA Brookwood Golf and Banquet Center is hosting a Women’s Wine and Nine event August 13 at 5 p.m. for $50, which includes nine holes of golf with a cart, wine tasting and appetizers, instruction and a tee gift. While participants must be 21 years old and space is limited to the first 60 registered, the evening begins with a 30 minute clinic with PGA Teaching Professional Joe Simpson, followed by a nine hole scramble.

Brookwood is also accepting applications to its Junior Golf Championship for boys and girls ages 12-18 on Aug. 23 for $35, which consists of kids 12-15 competing in flight one while flight two is made up of participants 16-18. Fee includes trophies for both age divisions, prizes, contests, a tee gift, awards luncheon following play, range balls and 18 holes of golf. Week long softball extravaganza

DAVISON — The Lady Cardinals will host a Triple Threat Fastpitch Softball Camp directed by Don Peters and Mike McCollum, the varsity softball coaches at Clarkston and Davison High Schools, Aug. 2-5 for girls ages 6-17 from 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m. for $125. Clinic includes a Tshirt, use of two fields, daily batting practice, hitting and fielding contests, and top flight, specialized instruction. Details: 810-653-8422. — M.S.

Upcoming summer ice camps

FLINT TWP. — Flint Iceland Arenas will finish off their summer camp sessions with a figure skating and hockey camp. Camp Chill Out is for figure skaters in beginner to intermediate levels Aug. 9-13 from 8:45- 3 p.m. Camp is open to kids ages 5- 16. Cost is $149 per child with 10 percent discount for second child.

The camp is run by Figure Skating Director Jennie Walsh and her staff. Skaters are divided into groups based on ability. Rental skates available at no cost. Package includes skating classes, practice ice time, crafts, games and fun.

Camp Power-Play is for hockey players ages 5-16 at the same times on Aug. 16-20. Cost is $199 per plays and camp is instructed by Hockey Director Jon Jepson and his assistant Brent Korzecki, who coached for three years with the Junior A NAHL. Kids will be divided into Level 1 or Level 2, and some loaner equipment is available at no cost. Details:

Yearly leagues coming together

GENESEE COUNTY — The Genesee Fieldhouse is now accepting registrations for its fourth annual 10U-high school baseball and softball leagues, which run from Sept. 12 to mid-October. The leagues feature Sunday doubleheaders and a single elimination playoff. Details: 810-655-2200 or

Annual outing up once more

GRAND BLANC — The 20th Annual Bendle High School Charlie Russian Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing is being hosted by the Jewel of Grand Blanc, 5270 Perry Rd., Sept. 18 at 8 a.m. for $75 per player. New program introduced by USA hockey

LAPEER — The Polar Palace of Lapeer will host an open house from 5:30 7 p.m. today to introduce the new USA Hockey Advanced Development Model for 8 and under hockey players. The ADM program uses half ice games and stations building on the Cross Ice program that introduces kids to hockey using cross ice mini-rinks rather than half or full ice. Get ready to have a blast

MT. MORRIS — The Genesee County Fair returns Aug. 16-22 with an action packed lineup that includes nightly shows by Pure Pro Wrestling at 5:30, 7:45 and 9:15 p.m., as well as the Great American Duck Races at 4 and 7 p.m. Every night at 7 p.m. there will also be a featured motorsports event, including a Michigan Monster Truck Shootout on opening day, the next night a Figure Eight Derby is slated and on Aug. 18 there will be an Enduro Derby.
