BURTON — Residents searching for a warm drink on those chilly winter mornings or a bite to eat for lunch can now turn to The Coffee Bar.

The business owners, Grand Blanc residents Kevin and Dawn Kozlowicz, were formally introduced to other community leaders at the Nov. 11 Burton Chamber of Commerce meeting.

Kevin Kozlowicz thanked the community during a brief presentation for its support in helping get the venture off the ground.

The Coffee Bar is located at 4021 E. Atherton Rd., inside the former Charlie’s Smokin’ Bar-B-Q restaurant and across from Burton Memorial Library.

A second Coffee Bar location has already been opened by the Kozlowiczs inside the 68th District Court in Flint.

The couple looked at other possible locations, including the former Starbucks building on Corunna Road in Flint and one location in Grand Blanc.

“We did look in Grand Blanc at a strip mall on the corner of Perry Road and Belsay (Road) … It was reasonably priced also, but it didn’t have a drive-thru and drive-thrus are very important these days,” Dawn said. “The Starbucks on Corunna Road wasn’t in the best location and there’s a Tim Horton’s down the street. We also looked at Courtland Center and Genesee Valley Mall.”

“It (Burton) was the most reasonably priced and there is no Tim Horton’s or Starbucks, so we’re pretty safe here,” she said.

Dawn said she previously worked at The Coffee Bar inside Flint Bishop Airport and decided to take over the business when the opportunity was presented to her.

Aside from the two new locations, Kevin and Dawn have continued a partnership to provide beverages at University of Michigan football and hockey games.

Aside from gourmet coffee in different flavors, cappuccinos, smoothies, soup, sandwiches, wraps, and bakery items will be available for customers via a drive-thru or seating inside the 800-square foot location. Patio seating is expected by spring or summer 2010. Hours of operation are from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday.
