League title up for grabs

— With the final week of regular-season volleyball games ending this week, area teams are not worrying too much about what lies ahead past today and into the weekend, where many still have a chance of finishing with a winning season. Let’s take a look at how each did or who they must get past on Saturday if that want to add hardware to the trophy cases.
ATHERTON
The Lady Wolverines defeated league rivals Genesee and Byron last Thursday, taking out Genesee 25-9, 23-25, 25-17, 25-12 and Byron, 16-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18.
Katie Walls led with 22 kills, 12 aces and four blocks, while Brianna Woods had 13 kills and six blocks. Retha Horton chipped in with 16 kills, six aces and one block, Shannon Christie had 28 digs and KC Hill made 59 assists, two kills and three aces. Raylynn Dark added eight kills, three aces and two blocks.
BENDLE
The Lady Tigers competed at the Bentley Tournament last Saturday, but scores were not reported.
FAITH
In its last conference game of the season, the Faith volleyball team stumbled against Port Huron New Life Tuesday, giving up their outright conference title, but hanging onto a share of it to end the season at 14-1 overall, 9-1 conference.
Sutton had three digs, no aces and two kills, Stillwell added one ace, two digs and two kills and Angie Drago had one ace and four kills. Sienkewicz had just two aces and nine assists.
“It was just a bad night for us at a bad time,” said coach Jan Craddock.
Last Friday, in the rescheduled meeting with St. Thomas More Academy, Faith won the match, 26-24, 18-25, 25-14, 25-22. Leaders on the night included Sutton with one ace, 17 digs and 12 kills. Becca Stilwell added three aces, 21 digs and four kills and Sara Sienkewicz had one ace, 27 assists and two digs.
Last Thursday against Saginaw Arts and Sciences, Faith won in three, 25-13, 25-20, 25-7 to remain undefeated at 13-0 overall, 8-0 conference. Amanda Sutton led with four aces and four kills, Angie Drago had nine aces and Sara Sienkewicz chipped in with four aces and 10 assists.
Last Monday, the Lady Lions dispatched Faith Home School, 25-21, 19-25, 25-16, 25-16. Sienkewicz had four aces and 17 assists, followed by Sutton with two aces, 18 digs and eight kills and Becca Stilwell added two aces, six digs and four kills.
GENESEE CHRISTIAN
The Lady Soldiers competed at the Bentley Invitational last Saturday, but scores were not available.
